How about a story of the new hires of Galveston Police Department. What ever happened to the 15 new officers that over 700 people applied for. There was so much news about how many people applied, and I read a story printed here in the policenews that there was a question about the funding for these officers. Was wondering where are the 15 new officers. Did not seem like there were any around the forth of July festivities. Have these officers even started yet or was this all a joke? - TL (77551)

The department graduated a class of 8 new officers in June 2010 from the 739 applicants.  Police Chief Charles Wiley says budget restraints will force the department to downsize through attrition so there will be no new hires for a long time. - Editor
