BAYTOWN - Concern and determination were more than apparent Tuesday night as 45 residents from Country Club Oaks gathered to talk about starting a crime watch program.

They packed into the living room, lined the hallways, and spilled into the dining room and kitchen of the house where the meeting was held. They were there to talk about the March 1 home invasion that left them wondering just how safe their once-calm neighborhood is.

Comments:

It's too bad it took an incident like this to motivate them to start their community crime watch. I hope they understand that just putting up a few signs is not going to solve anything. My neighborhood did that, and we've found they are not magic shields. What DOES work is when neighbors take the time to get to know each other, and look out for each other. If everyone keeps their eyes open, and has the willingness to call their local law enforcement when they see something suspicious, then a crime watch program can work.
