GALVESTON - Within five day of beginning a citywide warrant sweep, Galveston police have cleared 905 outstanding warrants with a potential fine value in excess of $100,000.

Lt. Henry Porretto, commander of the warrant task force, said a flyer emailed and distributed throughout the city prior to the sweep was responsible for many who had warrants they had merely forgotten about taking care of them.

Porretto said however, one man, the manger of a prominent Galveston business was arrested on his job for ignoring about $15,000 of outstanding warrants.

Officers throughout Texas are concentrating on finding people with warrants in their particular jurisidictions in what has become known as the Texas Warrant Roundup.

Lt. Porretto said today his task force has been particularly effective in finding people with Galveston warrants and will continue throughout March seeking and arresting these offenders.
