Erin Ashlyn Moffatt - Strangled her mother to death

GALVESTON - A jury in Judge Wayne Mallia's 405th District Court in Galveston has sentenced a League City daughter to 50-years imprisonment for strangling her mother to death  and dumping her body in an oil field.

The jury of eight men and four women sentenced Erin Ashlyn Moffatt, 20, this afternoon after convicting her of murder and tampering with physical evidence in the Sept. 2, 2008, slaying of Jana S. Moffatt.

At one time Moffatt confessed to police she strangled her mother after trying to stab her with a syringe, then recanted her confession, saying she was high on drugs, hadn't slept or eaten and was off her medication.

Although the state claimed Moffatt strangled her mother with a cord, evidence pointed to manual strangulation.

Jana Moffatt's body was badly decomposed when it was recovered in a Brazoria County oil field.

The jury sentenced her to two years probation for Tampering With Evidence by trying to hide her mother's body in the oil field.

Another poster child for doing the wrong thing. Drugs are a curse on world.

a child is not only a product of their environment but of their dna as well. Erin had a bi sexual mother who's lesbian lover used to routinely beat Erin as a small child. The mother did drugs and was abusive. Erin told me personally that no matter how bad it was , she loved her mother and her mother was all she had. She could not believe that what happened occurred. The girl described in the articles is not the clean and sober Erin who has spent 2 years in jail living with what she did and truly feels remorse.

The really sad thing is that it sounds like her mother was involved in drugs too. Little wonder the daughter turned out as she did.

CPS investigated her false claim of her mother's drug abuse and ALL supposed child abuse in the home to Erin and found NO substance to any statements she was making as a child or adolescent, or any problems in the home. At the time of the murder, the mother had had cleaned herself up from later drugs and was stable, and Erin had left her own son for extended lengths of time with her mom while she was unstable and doing drugs, and prostituting for money. She lied to everyone the night she killed her mother and dumped her, stole her car and spent the night in motels out of town during the hurricane, while others were worried about where her mother was, calling her and she was busy telling them that she didn't know where her mother was...this was nothing more than murder..and lies and fabrication to try to make her life sound worse than it was. And just because someone is bipolar off of their medicine does not make them murder or do this. This was all free will and choice.
