GALVESTON - Shortly after 11 o'clock this morning Galveston Police were dispatched to 33rd and Harborside to investigate a 2-car crash.  A van belonging to the Inn at the Waterpark, occupied by 11 persons, was driving west on Harborside approaching 33rd Street.

According to Captain Byron Franklund a Chevrolet Suburban occupied only by the driver was driving North on 33rd and failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign.  The van hit the passenger side of the Suburban and both vehiclex wound up in a nearby field.

All 11 occupants of the van and the driver of the Suburban were taken the John Sealy Hospital Emergency Room.  None of the injuries were believed to be life threatening.

The Suburban driver was identified as Carl Francis, 43, cited for Failure to Yield the Right-of-Way at the stop sign and No Insurance.

The crash was investigated by Accident Investigator Bobby Sanderson.

Comments:

I'm not rich but wanting to drive and w/o insurance while running Stop signs is not smart. Play like that in my generally traveled area would land you in the slammer long before the wreak could occure...

Be smart and insured !

I am one of the people who was in this wreck. So was my husband, my best friend and her husband. It was aweful but we are all blessed that it wasn't as bad as it could have been. There were several injuries, a few that needed surgery. I would just like to say that the driver of the van did everything possible to make sure that we were taken care of first. The manager and the staff at Inn at the Waterpark took care of all of us. I feel as though our treatment at the hospital ER was actually a worse experience than the wreck. Some were very kind but all in all I hope to never need their services again.

I was wondering if there were any photos of the accident. My wife and I were in the accident.
