GALVESTON - Galveston County District Attorney Kurt Sistrunk announed today his office has been awarded a grant from Governor's Office for a special prosecutor to deal with crimes against women.  In announcing the award, Sistruck said, "The Office of the Governor works to ensure that communities throughout the state receive the resources to make Texas a safer place by creating and supporting programs that protect people from crime, reduce the number of crimes committed, and promote accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness within the criminal justice system.

"In our efforts to achieve those same goals, the Galveston County District Attorney's Office requested funding through the Officer of the Governor for our Violent Crimes Against Women Special Prosecutor earlier this year.  We received notice today that our application for funding that Special Prosecutor has been awarded.  This is our second year to receive the grant and the success of the program and our prosecutions helped ensure the continued funding and continued ability to assist those victims of violent crimes to the best of our abilities."
