  9. Albuquerque: Former Los Alamos Employee Sentenced for Stealing Irradiated Gold

    Alex Maestas, a former employee of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, was sentenced to one year in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for stealing a two-ounce piece of gold which was contaminated with a small amount of americium and plutonium (which rendered the gold radioactive) from the laboratory.   10. Kansas City: Pottawatomie County Man Sentenced for Stealing More Than $500,000 from His Mother's Trust Fund

    Kent Joseph Gockel was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution for stealing more than $500,000 from his mother's trust fund. Full Story
