A Lubbock police officer was injured and a suspect shot after gunfire was exchanged during an attempted arrest in East Lubbock early this morning.

The patrol officer, Gerardo Torres, 35, was not shot, suffering only minor injuries during a scuffle with the 27-year-old suspect, said Capt. Greg Stevens.
