September 3, 2010

On August 20, 2010 at 5 o'clock in the morning Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a robbery of an individual call at the Exxon Convenience store at Gleneagle Drive and Highway 242.

The 62-year old woman had gone into the store and while there Jason Byford grabbed her purse from her minivan and got into a vehicle being driven by Michael Johnson.

The woman ran out of the store to retrieve her purse and grabbed the driver's side window when Michael Johnson accelerated carrying the her about 30 feet before she fell face first on the concrete parking lot. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

At the time of the Robbery Michael Johnson was the only participant identified and a warrant for his arrest was issue. The Major Crimes Unit requested the help of the MCSO Swat Unit and they were able to identify Jason Byford as the second attacker. SWAT Officers were able to locate and arrest Byford and he was still in possession of the victim's credit cards.

I do wish that this woman would have been more cautious. I don't carry a purse when shopping and would never leave valuables in sight in my vehicle. She certainly shouldn't have attempted to retrieve her purse. Lesson learned the hard way.
