CORPUS CHRISTI - Police recovered more than four ounces of marijuana, $1,700 and a high-powered assault rifle Wednesday from a 27-year-old man they described as a known gang member.

"The police chief made it known that going after gangs and drugs are our No. 1 priority right now," said Capt. John Houston, of the Corpus Christi Police Department.

"So we've been stepping up our efforts."
