Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 12800 block of the Gulf Freeway at 9:15 Thursday night.

The identity of the dead man, 56, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Sergeant J. Richard and Officer V. McLean's report indicates the driver of a green Lexus sport utility vehicle was traveling south on the Gulf Freeway when the victim, who was operating a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and also traveling south, made an unsafe lane change in front of the Lexus. 

The Lexus hit the motorcycle from behind and the rider lost control.  He died at the scene.  The driver of the Lexus was not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.
